Photofacial Rejuvenation

An exciting new procedure is now available which treats a combination of aging changes in facial, neck and upper chest skin. IPL or “Photo Facial” has recently gained widespread popularity in the USA. This is primarily because of it’s more dramatic results than Microdermabrasion or chemical peels and the fact that it is non-invasive and can usually be performed with no patient down time. The Photofacial is considered by many to be the most useful recent advance in cosmetic treatments for the skin.

Changes of Ageing

Visible features of aging can include:
   • Red, broken capillaries
   • Areas of redness (and sometimes flushing)
   • Blotchy pigmentation
   • Lines and wrinkles, due to a loss of collagen in the second layer of the skin

What are the Benefits of Photo Rejuvenation?
In the majority of patients, Photo rejuvenation provides consistent, visible improvement in the skin with no downtime, little discomfort and minimal risk.
Benefits usually include a noticeable reduction in:
   • Irregular pigmentation and freckles resulting in a more even tone
   • Sun damage (photoaging)
   • Red, broken capillaries and areas of redness
   • The symptoms of rosacea

In addition, many patients notice some reduction in pore size and fine wrinkles with overall smoother skin. (Overseas studies have demonstrated new collagen formation following treatment).

What is Photofacial Treatment Like?

An intense pulsed-light device is used to deliver a series of gentle pulses of light to the skin. Specific parameters are selected for each treatment for optimal results. Initially, a layer of cool gel is applied to the face prior to the light pulse. The procedure is well tolerated although patients with sensitive skin may elect to apply an anaesthetic cream beforehand. A full face treatment takes approximately 20 minutes.

Immediately following the treatment, the skin may appear red and flushed whilst brown spots may appear darker. These changes gradually fade over a few hours to a few days. Make-up can be applied immediately following the procedure if necessary, so it is possible to return straight back to work.

How Soon Will I See The Results?
After your first treatment, your skin will appear smoother and have a more even tone. The improvements are gradual and will be more visible after each treatment. A series of 4 treatments at 1-4 week intervals are recommended for optimal results.

Who are the Best Candidates?
  • People with early aging changes or sun damage who desire a healthy, more youthful    appearing skin
• People seeking more dramatic results than can be accomplished with Microdermabrasion    or chemical peels yet can’t afford to take the time off to heal from laser resurfacing
• Active people who don’t wish to interfere with outdoor or social activities
• People who suffer from rosacea and experience redness and flushing of the skin
• People who suffer from broken capillaries or irregular pigmentation

What is the Cost?
There are two options. You can make a time with the sister and have her perform your treatments in which case there is no consultation fee. Alternatively, you can consult with the doctor and have him supervise your treatments in which case an initial consultation fee of $60.00 applies.

A full face treatment costs $400.00. The neck, upper chest, hands and arms can also be treated and, if requested, would be quoted during the initial consultation.

Accelerated Regimen

Dr Szalay offers an accelerated regimen for people wishing to achieve their final result quicker.

Under the accelerated regimen, only 1 or 2 treatments are required. Because higher energies are used, patients are advised to apply an anaesthetic cream prior to treatment. With the use of the anaesthetic cream, the procedure is very well tolerated.

Once again, because of higher energies, some redness and swelling (and possibly some peeling) may occur which may take 3 to 4 days to settle down. Accordingly, patients are advised to allow for a 3 to 4 day recovery period.

The cost per treatment under the accelerated regimen is $550.00.

Dr Szalay needs to personally assess all patients seeking an accelerated treatment and an initial consultation fee of $55.00 will apply.

ALA

ALA is a cream which can be added to a photo facial treatment in order to eradicate sunspots and skin cancers.

Sunspots are red, scaly areas on the face whilst skin cancers appear in different shapes and sizes.

If you wish to have sunspots or skin cancers treated as part of your photo facial, an extra fee of $150 per treatment would apply. Normally 1 or 2 ALA treatments are required for sunspots or skin cancers.
