The Lift-Plus (for rejuvenation of the eyebrow and eyelid see the Lift and Eyelid surgery)

The Lift Plus is for lifting of midface, lower face and neck.

The Lift-Plus is a variation of The Lift, which is used for patients that have excess loose skin. The main difference between the Lift-Plus and the standard Lift is that the excess loose skin is removed at the time of The Lift.

How does The Lift-Plus Work?

Multiple, fine sutures are used to lift and support sagging skin on the face and neck. The sutures used in The Lift-Plus are looped, by way of small hollow needles, to the sagging muscle layer which supports the face and neck. The other ends of the sutures are anchored to firm tissue behind the ear or in the scalp, lifting and holding the soft tissue in the corrected position. Excess skin is removed through a fine incision along the ear. The incision is placed carefully so as to be as imperceptible as possible.

What are the Advantages of The Lift-Plus?

Effective
The experience of Dr Szalay is that The Lift-Plus is a very effective method of tightening a sagging neck, jowl, cheek or eyebrow. Dr Szalay feels that the Lift-Plus is more effective than an S-Lift.

Appearance
The Lift-Plus provides an aesthetically pleasing facial rejuvenation which is very natural in appearance.

Safety
The sutures used in The Lift-Plus are made of prolene, a biocompatible material that has been used for many years safely as a permanent suture in many forms of surgery including facial surgery. Because there is much less skin undermining with The Lift-Plus than a conventional facelift, there is greater safety with respect to skin healing with The Lift-Plus.

Recovery
Once again, because of less skin undermining with The Lift-Plus than a conventional facelift there is less bruising and swelling. Most patients being able to return to normal activities after 10 to 14 days.

Longlasting
The Lift-Plus should last several years. The sutures will not break because multiple sutures are inserted which all support each other nd add to the strength of the lift.

What is The Lift-Plus Procedure Like?
Before the procedure, a sedative is given so that the patient feels very relaxed, anaesthetic is then injected to numb the area. The anaesthetic also helps to lift the underlying tissue and shrink the blood vessels to that the surgery is almost bloodless. An S shaped incision is placed along the natural curve of the ear and then slightly forward, beneath the sideburn. The underlying muscle layer (SMAS) is then tightened and carefully repaired whilst excess skin is removed. A compression bandage is then worn for 3 days. After 3 days, patients can remove the bandage, wash their hair and apply antibiotic ointment. Sutures are removed after 7 days and most patients are able to return to work after 10 - 14 days.

How does The Lift-Plus Differ from a Standard Face Lift?

The Lift-Plus is able to achieve results equal to those of a standard Face Lift as can be demonstrated by the following before and after photos. The primary advantage of the Lift-Plus is that there is significantly less undermining of the skin. With a standard Face Lift, the skin is undermined extensively in order to tighten the underlying supportive muscle layer (SMAS) under direct vision.

With the Lift-Plus, a fine hollow needle is used to pass multiple loops of sutures through the SMAS layer in order to lift and tighten it without having to first widely undermine the skin. Only the excess skin in undermined and removed. This is a significant advance in terms of safety. Because much less skin is undermined with the Lift-Plus, there is less bleeding, less bruising and safer skin healing than with a standard face lift. In summary, in both the Lift-Plus and the standard face lift, it is the important underlying supportive SMAS layer that is lifted and tightened. Because the Lift-Plus can achieve this with significantly less skin trauma, safety is enhanced without compromising results. A good way to gauge the effectiveness of a particular technique is to look at good quality before and after photos where the patient is in the same position and the same angle is used in the before and after shots.
