This revolutionary machine works by emitting a light pulse which
travels through the skin and selectively targets hair follicles.

The IPL has 2 distinct advantages over conventional
hair removal techniques: speed and versatility. Each IPL pulse
treats hundreds of hair follicles simultaneously. As a result,
hair removal with the IPL is very fast. This is particularly
convenient if a patient has a limited amount of time or has
a large area to treat. A full back can be treated in just over
1 hour.
The other advantage of the IPL is its versatility. Even though
it can treat large areas of hair rapidly, it is flexible enough
to treat small or sensitive areas equally well because of
its ability to adjust the area of the light pulse.
Furthermore, the IPL has a sophisticated computer software
which is able to adjust the wavelength and format of delivery
of the light energy. This is an important advantage because
the type of hair to be treated can vary from patient to patient
and from one part of the body to another. Once the unique
features of an individual hair type are entered into the software,
the IPL is able to customize treatment parameters to suit
that particular person. As a result, the effectiveness of
the treatment is optimized. Conventional lasers lack this
degree of flexibility.
The IPL has obtained approval by the FDA in the USA to be
able to claim “Permanent hair reduction.”

The figures from this table are extracted from actual clinical
data which was submitted to the FDA by each of the devices
in order to obtain FDA clearance.

A further advantage of the ability of the IPL to customize
its treatment regimen is that it can effectively treat a range
of hair colours from ginger-blond through to black. In addition,
darker skin type,s as well as lighter ones, can be effectively
treated.

At any one time a given number of hair follicles are active
whilst others are dormant. The effect of one treatment is
to target active hair follicles but dormant ones may not be
affected. Accordingly, it will be necessary to come in for
a series of treatments. Usually, treatments are performed
at 1–2 month intervals (which is when the dormant hair
follicles become active.)

Some individuals may require more than 4 treatments. If so,
these are provided at a 30% discount. If an area for subsequent
treatment was significantly reduced in size then the price
may be reduced further. The exact price, however, can only
be advised after assessment in person by one of our staff.

Following IPL therapy, the vast majority of patients notice
a significant reduction in the amount of hair. In most patients,
if any hair remains, it tends to be finer and less noticeable.
Whilst modern hair removal technology (including IPL and
other hair removal lasers) is effective in the majority of
patients, there may be a minority of patients who, for unknown
reasons, do not obtain any benefit from treatment.
Note: There are several different IPL devices available.
The one used at Precision Cosmetic Laser and Surgery is able
to emit the highest energy. In many individuals, this extra
energy is important for providing optimal results.

Please Note:
If you are booking in for a test patch or treatment:-
(1) Please avoid shaving the
area for a few days beforehand because the ideal length of
hair to treat is 2 – 4
mm. (We can trim it to that size at the practice if necessary).
(2) Please avoid sun on the
area to be treated for 4 weeks prior to the treatment or test
patch.
(3) Payment is required on the
day by cash, credit card or EFTPOS.
